We are Formula Foods. A 100% New Zealand owned flavour house company based in Christchurch. Founded in 1987, Formula Foods are pioneers in the manufacturing sector of flavours and ingredients and supply a wide range of products and service to the food manufacturing sector throughout New Zealand and overseas.
We are on the hunt for an innovative, experimental and bold Flavourist / Flavour Chemist to join our team in Sockburn, Christchurch. We offer relocation assistance for the right candidate where applicable. (Post Pandemic)
In this role, you will develop new and exciting flavour creations for our clients. You will have a wealth of insight into current market trends to combine basic natural flavours and raw materials to create new, exciting flavours for our wide array of customers. You are creative, passionate and daring and will question the status quo on ordinary food because you don’t just taste food, it’s the colour, smell, the sensation on your tongue and how it makes you feel. We want that!
To do this, you will be designing equivalent flavours supplied by clients utilising the GC/MS, Mass hunter library and other formulation techniques to develop similar flavour profiles. You will also enjoy a collaborative team environment, as you will be working closely with the technical sales, purchasing and manufacturing teams.
About you.
- You will ideally have at least 5 years of experience as a Flavourist / Flavour Chemist or in a similar role.
- You have a Tertiary Qualification in Food Science or Chemistry.
- You understand flavours within the various market product categories i.e. Beverage, Confectionery, Bakery, Dairy and Savoury etc.
- You have the skills to create successful profitable flavours without using existing formulations with minimum ingredients that are readily available and production suitable.
- You have great sensory skills, understanding of raw materials, regulations, spray/ plate drying and flavour emulsions.
